MB Plastics offers a basic dip pipe design which consists of a conventional carbon steel spool piece lined with FEP and fitted with a heavy-duty PTFE inner liner. This lining is flared over the top flange whenever vacuum services are required.

A more complex dip pipe design with a higher strength is used when the liquid contents of the vessel require the dip pipe to penetrate into agitated or highly corrosive fluids. This is achieved by fitting a spool piece of a larger diameter outer pipe which reinforces the dip pipe lining and protects the bore and external surfaces.

To assess the effect of perforation on mixing performance, a series of flow and tracer simulations were performed on a laboratory-scale contact tank. The results indicate that the perforated baffle design enhances hydraulic efficiency by 36% according to the baffling factor and mixing efficiency by 31% according to the Mo index.
